Founded in 2008, PC Capital, is a Mexico based social impact Private Equity (“PE”) firm managing co-investments, direct deals and a growth equity PE Fund. Our Firm seeks to invest in Mexico’s, high growth social impact opportunities of proven but underdeveloped business concepts and industries.
Since inception, the firm has achieved extraordinary returns for its investors, which include development banks, family offices, foundations, and high net-worth individuals. Some of the firm’s Limited Partners include the Inter-American Development Bank (“IADB”) through the Multilateral Investment fund (“MIF”), Corporación Andina de Fomento (“CAF”), Promotora Social Mexico (“PSM”), and Fondo de Fondos through Mexico Ventures, among other institutional investors.
PC Capital’s vintage investments have generated an IRR in excess of 25% and the firm’s current Mexico Development I, L.P. impact growth equity fund has had realizations to date with an IRR in excess of 80% on its invested and returned capital.
Over the last 20 years, Mr. Coballasi has worked as a private equity investor, investment banker and consultant in the United States and Latin America. For the last 10 years, Mr. Coballasi co-founder and help built the PC Capital franchise into Mexico’s leading middle market investment banking practice. Before PC Capital, Pablo served as VP of FondElec Capital Advisors in New York, where he helped manage a PE portfolio of over US$600 MM of mainly telecom and energy investments, and as a consultant for Deloitte Consulting/Braxton Associates. He holds a BE in Mechanical Engineering from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management. Additionally, Pablo serves as a mentor for Endeavor and Wayra Mexico and is a member of Mexico’s Institute for Financial Executives (IMEF).
Mr. Cervantes has accumulated a vast experience as a board member of some of Mexico’s leading corporations, investment banker and operator of several industries. Pablo serves or has served on the board of Kuo, Dine, Beta Santa Mónica, BCBA Impulse, among others. Prior to PC Capital, Mr. Cervantes worked as a banker for IXE bank in Mexico and JPMorgan in New York. Mr Cervantes has also served as CEO fo Polycrom, one of Mexico’s leading conglomerates with over US$500 MM in revenues generated from its agriculture, dairy products, sugar processing, and real estate businesses in Mexico and Spain. He is a Chemical Engineer from Universidad Iberoamericana and holds an MBA from Mexico’s IPADE Business School.
Mr. Araujo has a strong background in corporate finance and business strategy, as well as expertise with helping companies in scaling up and institutionalizing. Over the last 10 years, Mr. Araujo Co-founded PC Capital’s Growth Equity practice and has participated in several opportunities as an Angel Investor. Mr. Araujo has more than 12 years of international investment banking experience across Mexico. Prior to PC Capital, Mr. Araujo worked in BBVA’s Investment Banking Division specializing in Corporate Finance and M&A for Grupo BBVA in Mexico City for three years. This team focused specifically on providing corporate finance services for mid/large-cap companies in Mexico, the US, and Latin America. Prior to BBVA, Mr. Araujo worked in Wealth Management at BBVA Bancomer for almost five years, where he advised and managed a portfolio of assets for High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI) of about $150.0 Mn USD. At this time Mr. Araujo was certified by the AMIB (Asociación Mexicana de Intermediarios Bursátil) as an Investment Strategy Advisor and a Financial Advisor (equivalent to the series 7). He has also served as a Member in the Board of Advisors for several companies such as Renueva Commercial, Cesar Pizza, Universidad Internacional, Grupo Filoa and Grupo Came. Mr. Araujo has an MBA in finance from Instituto de Empresas Business School (IE) in Madrid, Spain. He also holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from the Universidad Iberoamericana (UIA) in Mexico City, Mexico.
Luis Coria has been an investment banker for more than 20 years. He has been a Partner and Managing Director at PC Capital since 2014. Prior to PC Capital, Mr. Coria was the Head of BNP Paribas’ Corporate and Investment Banking team in Mexico for 7 years. Previously, he spent several years working in Senior Investment Banking positions for JPMorgan in New York and Mexico. Luis has participated in leading roles in debt and equity capital financings worth more than US$1.5 Billion, M&As worth more than US$2 Billion and in other relevant financial transactions. Mr. Coria holds a B.Sc. degree in Industrial Engineering from the Universidad Iberoamericana and an MBA from the University of Michigan.
Mr. Godard has over 10 years of experience in Private Equity, Investment Bank and Debt Financing in Mexico and Latin America. Prior to PC Capital, Gerardo structured and placed over 10 transactions in the Mexican debt public market, of over US$300 MM and completed a qide range of private M&A transactions in sectors such as Retail & Consumer, Food, Pharmaceuticals, Tech, Financial Institutions and Real Estate as Investment Banking and Corporate Financing Subdirector at INVEX. He Co-founded Kandeo Private Equity Fund, fund that has more than US$400 MM in AUM from institutional investors. Worked in Editorial Televisa and Samsung Electronics Mexico. Gerardo holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Tecnológico de Monterrey.
Guillermo Tame has more than 20 years of investment experience. In 2009, he co-founded ExtendedSuites, Mexico's first low-cost hotel chain targeted to business travelers. He has worked as advisor to Inmobiliaria Data and JORMAC and as a contractor to PEMEX. Mr. Tame holds a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering from Universidad Anáhuac, a Certificate in Finance from ITAM, and an Executive MBA from IPADE.
Leonardo Beltran has more than 10 years of investment experience. He has worked as co-head of a Residential Development in Mexico City, and has been involved in a series of Real Estate Developments in Mexico. Mr. Beltran participated in IPADE's Senior Management Program.
Javier Arrechea has been involved in the education sector for more than 31 years. He is focused on sourcing international investment opportunities in Latin America, primarily in the education sector. To date, he is a Principal at Sterling Capital Partners , a US middle market PE firm with over $3.0 Bn USD of assets under management, President of Sterling International Schools, Senior Partner and Founder of Avantya in Education, a consulting company dedicated to help International Groups in the area of Education to expand Internationally, and Co Founder of Laureate Educational Corporation. Javier is also an adviser to the CEO of both Laureate Educational Corporation and Sterling International Schools (Actual Meritas International Corporation), participating in the acquisition of 36 Private Universities and 14 k – 12 schools around the world for a combined value of over $ 1.3 Bn USD. In addition, Javier has owned K-12 educational and language institutions in a number of Spanish-speaking countries.
Mr. Capriles leads the PC Capital’s Energy practice. For 8 years, Vicente served as VP of Corporate Development and Deputy CEO at Suelopetrol, during which time he was a board member and the designated official representing the company in Oil & Gas ventures in Mexico, USA, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela. He was board member of the Orinoco Belt JV project and at Moncloa Pirineo Gas. Mr. Capriles was a management consultant at The Boston Consulting Group’s New York and Mexico City offices, specializing in Industrial Goods and Financial Services. Vicente holds a Civil Engineering degree from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
Juan Pablo Morfin
Juan Pablo has over 15 years of experience in management positions. He has worked in the automobile industry, public health, telecommunications, education and housing developments at companies such as GM, Zeneca, Novartis, MaxCom, and Integer Group. His main areas of expertise are corporate finance, business development, capitalization, strategic planning, negotiation, internal control and marketing. Mr. Morfin has been in the financial sector since 1999 and has managed business units, assets and capitalization in over 15 countries in Europe, South America and North America. Juan Pablo is an Industrial Engineer who graduated from Universidad Anáhuac del Sur, has an MBA from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater and is a PhD candidate in Strategic Planning by Universidad Anáhuac del Norte.
Hermann has over 30 years of experience in diverse areas of business, which has provided him with a broad exposure to international corporations as well as diverse business cultures. For almost 10 years, Hermann was a Senior Partner at ConTrade Mexico, a consulting firm specialized in assisting foreign companies enter the Mexican market. During 3 years, he was a director of Market Intelligence Unit at Marketing Group, which is one of the largest market research and intelligence firms in Mexico. Mr. Warnholtz was also a pioneer in the introduction to Mexico of the franchising system, being one of the founding members of the Mexican Franchise Association. Hermann holds a BE in Mechanical Engineering with an specialty in Engineering from Universidad Autonoma de Mexico.
Andrés Sánchez Bruhn
While being an Analyst at PC Capital, Andres has worked in the Private Equity Fund: Mexico Development I, LP. Prior to joining the PC Capital team, he was part of the sales and trading team in Bank of America Merrill Lynch Mexico, where he analyzed and recommended specific investment opportunities with traders in Mexico and NY. He was also able to develop his negotiation skills. As well as send out research notes to traders summarizing daily and weekly data and news from different industries. Andres has a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from Universidad Iberoamericana.
Sebastian joined PC Capital as an Analyst. Prior to joining the PC Capital team, he was part of Deals in PwC, where he performed financial planning, modeling, financial due diligence and structuring of securitizations and debt. He also has experience in construction Industry, where he worked the operation and administration of a construction company for 2 years. Sebastian has a Public Accountant and Financial Strategy degree from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México.
José García de la Garza
Jose Garcia de la Garza first worked as a Credit Analyst Intern in Interbanco, where he aided Credit Analysts with the analysis of a company's financial statements and the preparation of reports for the Bank's credit committee. Then, he was hired by the Representative Office of BAC Florida Bank in Mexico City as a Credit Analyst, where he prepared credit reports, including reports for lines of credit insured by the Export-Import Bank of the United States. In Pichardo Asset Management, José worked as a Debt Analyst, where he helped with analyzing the global and local economy, monitoring trends in specific industries, and following up on specific companies; contributing in the writing of reports to provide stock recommendations to the company’s Portfolio Managers. Jose holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Finance from Tecnológico de Monterrey.
Prior to joining PC Capital’s team, Talisa worked as a junior analyst in Akaan-Transamerica, an asset management and Investment Advisor for Latin America. Talisa was member of the team specialized in Investment Banking. Between the activities, she did analysis of investment opportunities in several publicly listed companies, valuation and financial modeling. Talisa holds a Bachelor's degree in Finance from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, as well as a Corporate Finance summer course abroad in New York University. She also holds a diploma in Corporate Finance and Entrepreneurship in ITAM. She passed Level I and Level II exams of CFA Institute.
Prior to joining PC Capital’s team, Eduardo worked as an analyst in a private company, where he was involved in the internal valuation of the company and had direct contact with the investment-banking firm that handled the independent valuation. During his time in the company he participated in elaboration of the first Consolidated Annual Financial Statements, integrating nine (9) subsidiaries. Eduardo holds a Bachelor's degree in Finance from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, as well as doing a semester abroad in Universidad Publica de Navarra in Spain.
Prior to joining the PC Capital team, he received his education abroad in the Unites States and Switzerland. He is fluent in english and is currently obtaining his degree in Economics from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México, where he plans to graduate within the next 12 months
Over the last 8 years Mayra Navarrete has developed vast experience in preparing financial information and implementing internal controls. Prior to PC Capital Mayra worked as an Analyst/Financial Reporting at Holcim Mexico, one of the largest producers and distributors of cement, aggregates and other products for the construction industry, were she developed and implemented internal controls and prepared their financial information in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) over 2 years. Before Holcim, Mayra worked for 3 years at KPMG Mexico, highlighting the experience she developed auditing some of the largest banks and financial institutions in Mexico such as Banamex, HSBC, Scotiabank and performing audit work for governmental institutions such as Instituto del Fondo Nacional de la Vivienda para los Trabajadores (INFONAVIT). Additionally, Mrs. Navarrete worked as Tax Consultant for expatriates at Deloitte (Galaz, Yamazaki, Ruíz Urquiza) in Mexico City. Mayra holds a BE in Public Accountant from ESCA Santo Tomás – IPN in Mexico and has participated auditing and financial courses from KPMG and Deloitte.
PC Capital has developed an investment approach that relies on five key value drivers to generate attractive investment returns.
We seek to invest between $5.0 to $25.0 million per investment in companies with a proven business model, strong management teams and attractive EBITDA margins. We are sector agnostic but have a preference for investing in the education, financial services, food and sustainability industries.
